Vadym Sidyachenko, Chairman of the Board of the Center for International Cooperation and Project Implementation (hereinafter referred to as the Center), as part of the Ukrainian delegation, took part from November 30 to December 7, 2023, in the work of the 28th International Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC - COP28), which was held in Dubai.
This business trip was made possible thanks to the financial support of the Heinrich Boell Foundation, which allowed him to participate in several plenary and working sessions of the COP 28 working bodies and to hold several important meetings with representatives of official delegations and NGOs from many countries and to inform them about the environmental and economic situation in Ukraine.
V. Sidyachenko took part in seminars and site events held on the sidelines of the COP 28 in the Ukrainian pavilion, as well as in the pavilions of Japan, the Republic of Korea, Israel, Turkey, the United States, as well as Germany, and several EU countries.
During the meetings, special attention was paid to the consequences of the ecocide carried out by the Russian Federation in the course of its armed aggression against Ukraine.
Given the focus of the Center's activities on the issues of
implementation in Ukraine of Article 6 of the Paris Agreement on the development of carbon markets and private investment to ensure emission reductions, energy efficiency and adaptation to climate change, participation in the work of COP 28 allowed V. Sidyachenko to establish working contacts and develop promising cooperation projects.
In particular, he held working consultations with representatives of the Ministries of Environment and Foreign Affairs of Japan, Poland, Lithuania, and Canada, with representatives of Japanese corporations Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Panasonic, Taisey, Toshiba, NEC, and others, experts of international organizations NEFCO, EBRD, UNEEC, OECD, etc.
Cooperation and establishing contacts with representatives of the public sector of Ukraine and many other countries was also an important part of the work at COP28.
Based on the results of the business trip to COP 28 in Dubai, the Center continues to provide advisory assistance to the Ministry of Environment of Ukraine in preparing for the signing of the Memorandum of Cooperation between the governments of Ukraine and Japan on the preparation of projects based on the joint lending mechanism. The Center also maintains contacts and working communication established at this important international forum.
